Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, The most successful manager in the history of English football has resigned. The shock news came this morning when Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that the trouncing Chelsea gave Stoke yesterday put an end to any hope Manchester United had of winning the Championship this season.

There are unconfirmed reports that Ferguson has been offered a controlling interest in the Los Angeles Galaxy in an effort to lure him to America. It is believed that David Beckham is behind the move to bring Sir Alex to the United States. Beckham has never hidden the fact that he plans to buy a team in the MLS once his playing career is over and the achilles injury he suffered recently may well have brought his playing days to a close. Teaming up with his old boss from his days at United is seen as a golden opportunity for Beckham to remain on the world stage.

Managing a team in the United States would be a fantastic challenge for Sir Alex. Following his amazing success with Aberdeen he moved to Manchester where under his leadership United became the number one soccer club in the world. Over the last twenty five years Manchester United won every honor football had to offer as Ferguson put together some of the greatest teams ever. A number of people at the helm of United were said to be extremely upset that the Red Devils had let the Championship slip out of their grasp this season and Ferguson's apathy is taking the full brunt of the blame.

A press conference is slated for 2 P.M. at Old Trafford where Ferguson is expected to lay out his plans for moving to the States and taking charge of the LA Galaxy. BLC/CON will carry the press conference live.
